About the game
Feeder Guard is a busy afternoon in a cosy backyard. A wooden bird feeder full of sunflower seed stands by the fence, and finches, bluebirds, robins and doves drop by to eat. So do the squirrels. They climb the post, run along the fence and leap from the tree branches, and once they sit on the tray they gobble seed fast. Swipe across a squirrel and it tumbles away.
The catch is that the birds are jumpy. A swipe that passes close to a feeding bird sends it flying in a panic, and three frightened birds means the flock is gone for the day. So when a squirrel lands right next to a bird, you either wait for the bird to finish and fly off, or lose a heart. Keep seed in the feeder until the sun goes down to clear the day; each heart you keep is a star. Twenty-five days bring quicker chipmunks, stubborn grey squirrels, a raccoon at dusk and a busier feeder.
