About the game
Four Stones is a compact strategy game for two on a five by five board. Each side has only four stones. First you take turns placing them anywhere on the board. Once all eight are down the game changes gear: now each turn you slide one of your stones one step in any of the eight directions to an empty point. Line up all four in a row, a column or a diagonal, or gather them into a tight two by two square, and you win.
The placing phase feels calm, but the moving phase is where games are decided. Every stone can still shift, so a single step can create two threats at once, and a defence that looked solid can open in a moment. Red rings warn you where the rival is one step from winning, and gold rings show your own chances. Six animal rivals look further ahead as you climb, from a playful frog to a far-sighted owl. Stars reward winning quickly.
