About the game
Market Deck is a compact deck-building duel. You and an animal merchant both start with the same humble deck of seven pennies and three cottages. Every turn you draw five cards, add up the coins and spend them at the market on new cards, which slowly turn your little deck into a money machine. Silver and gold make richer hands, carts and lanterns pull in extra cards, scouts and markets do a bit of both.
The heart of the game is the tension between growing and scoring. Only star cards count at the end, and a castle is worth a lot, but a star card in your hand is a dead card: it takes up one of your five slots and adds nothing. Buy them too early and your deck clogs, your hands shrink and the merchant pulls ahead; buy them too late and the castles are gone. Watching the merchant's purchases tells you how close the end is. Eighteen matches add new market cards and sharper merchants who build better decks and time their castles well.
