About the game
Scopa means broom, and the best moment in this Italian classic is sweeping the table clean. The deck has forty cards in four suits, coins, cups, swords and clubs, numbered one to seven plus a Jack, Knight and King worth eight, nine and ten. You and your rival get three cards each with four laid face up between you. On your turn play one card. If a table card has the same value you must take it; if not, you may take any group of table cards that adds up to your card. When you cannot capture, your card stays on the table. Clear the whole table and you score a scopa.
When the deck runs out, each hand pays one point for most cards, most coins, the seven of coins and the best primiera, a set of the strongest card in each suit, plus every scopa. First to seven points wins the match. The twist is the capture helper: lift a card and every legal combo appears as a chip, with its table cards lighting up, so you never miss a sum. Six rivals range from a gentle grandmother to a professor who counts every card.
