About the game
Yut Nori is the board game Korean families play at New Year and Chuseok. Instead of dice you throw four flat sticks. Count the flat sides that land face up: one is Do (1 step), two is Gae (2), three is Geol (3), all four is Yut (4) and none is Mo (5). Yut and Mo let you throw again, and so does capturing a rival piece. One stick is marked: if only that stick lands flat side up, it's Back-do and you move one step backwards.
The board is a square with two diagonal roads. Stop exactly on a corner and your next move takes the shortcut through the centre. Land on your own piece and they stack, travelling together for one move's cost, but a capture sends the whole stack home. An illustrated guide explains every rule before your first game. Beat three rivals in a row, from a cheerful beginner to a sharp grandma.
