About the game

Forest Ranger gives you thirty years in charge of a small forest. Each turn is one year with three actions: cut a tree for timber coins or plant a sapling on open ground, then move on to the next year. Saplings grow into young, mature and finally old trees, rangers need their wages every year, and each forest has two goals for year thirty: a coin target and an owl target.

The hard part is that the most valuable timber and the best homes are the same trees. Old trees sell for the most coins, but owls only nest in an old tree that stands inside a dense stand, so a clear-cut costs you the owls next door too. Later forests bring wildfires and bark beetles, both marked a year ahead so you can cut the danger tree first, plus storms that knock down lonely old giants. Run out of coins and the rangers leave.
