About the game

Sixty-Six is one of the oldest card games still played in Central Europe, and the ancestor of Schnapsen. It uses only twenty cards, the aces, tens, kings, queens and jacks of four suits, and the whole deck is worth 120 points. Each deal you get five cards, the card under the stock shows the trump suit, and after every trick both players draw. Win tricks with high cards and trumps, and score extra by leading a king or queen while holding its partner: a marriage is worth 20, or 40 in trumps. The first player to reach 66 card points wins the deal and earns one to three game points, and the first to seven game points wins the match.

The twist is closing. When you lead, you can turn the trump card over and close the stock. From then on nobody draws, and the strict rules apply: you must follow suit and beat the card if you can, otherwise you must trump. Close at the right moment and you finish the deal on your own terms; close too early and miss 66, and the rival scores the deal instead. Six animal rivals, from a bunny who plays almost at random to a wolf who counts cards, each want a match to seven.
