About the game
Janggi is the Korean cousin of chess, and this mini version fits it onto a 7 by 9 board so a game takes minutes instead of an hour. Each side has a General and two Guards that never leave their palace, a Chariot that slides like a rook, a Horse and an Elephant that leap but can be blocked, four Soldiers that only step forward or sideways, and the famous Cannon, which must jump over exactly one piece to move or capture and can never jump a cannon.
The tricky parts are shown on the board instead of in a rulebook. Select a piece and its moves light up; inside a palace the diagonal lines glow when the piece may use them, and a cannon rings its screens and draws a jump arc to every landing point. A guide card under the board sketches each piece's pattern. Six rivals, from a pond frog playing without its chariot to a tiger king that looks three moves ahead.
