Controls
Tap- Take turns placing an X on any empty square of a live board; both sides use the same X.
- When a board gets three X in a row (across, down or diagonal) it is dead and grey.
- When every board is dead, the player who made the final line loses.
- Each match starts from a position you can win with perfect play, so look for the move that leaves your opponent stuck.
- HINT lights up a winning square but costs a star.
About the game
Cross Out is a sharp little logic duel built on one twist to the most familiar paper game there is. There are no noughts. You and your opponent both draw crosses, on the same boards, and nobody wants to finish a line. A board with three crosses in a row is dead and drops out of play. Keep going until every board is dead; whoever draws the line that kills the very last board loses.
Because the mark is shared, every cross is a risk for both of you, and the game becomes a battle over who is forced to move when no safe square is left. With one board the first player has a single winning reply; with several boards the question becomes which boards to kill on purpose and which to leave alive so the count of safe moves comes out in your favour. Each of the eighteen matches starts from a position that a solver has confirmed you can win, some with pre-drawn crosses, and the animal opponents get better at setting traps that leave you only one good answer. If you slip once, they play perfectly from then on.
