About the game
Pishti Sweep is a friendly version of the much-loved Turkish card game. You and an animal rival each hold four cards and take turns laying one on the pile. Play a card of the same rank as the top card, or any Jack, and you sweep up everything. Aces and Jacks are worth a point, the two of clubs two, the ten of diamonds three, and whoever ends with the most cards gets three more.
The heart of the game is the pishti. If the pile holds just one card and you match it, that sweep alone is worth ten points, or twenty for a Jack on a Jack. So every time the pile is empty, someone has to lay a lone card and hope the other side cannot match it. The strip at the bottom shows how many of each rank have already appeared, which tells you which cards are safe to lay. Twelve rivals at three tables, from a careless rabbit to a tiger that remembers everything.
