Wind-Up

Physics · Best on PC · 20 languages · Free

Tin wind-up cars with tiny animal drivers roll across a playroom table. Wind each toy just the right number of turns and park it on its colour spot, but toys bump each other, so the order you let them go changes everything.

About the game

Wind-Up is a cosy puzzle game on a playroom table. A fox, a rabbit, a duck, a hamster and a pig each drive a little tin car with a brass key on the back. Pull back from a toy to wind it, watch the dial count the turns, and let go: it rolls exactly that many squares. Park every car on the spot with its colour and badge.

The trick is that toys bump. When a rolling car hits another one it stops dead, and the car in front rolls on with all the turns that were left, so one good wind can park two toys, and a car facing the wrong way can only get home by being bumped there. Who goes first decides everything. Twenty-four tables add toy blocks that stop a roll, turn pads that steer it, and gaps where a careless car drops off the edge.
