About the game
Euchre is a quick and lively trick-taking game from North American kitchen tables, played with only twenty-four cards, nine up to ace. You and your partner face two rivals, with five cards each. One card is turned face up, and in turn each player may order that suit up as trump or pass; if all pass, each may name a different suit, and the dealer is stuck choosing if it comes back around. The team that picks trump must win at least three of the five tricks: three or four is a point, all five is two, and doing it alone without your partner is worth four. Fall short and you are euchred, giving the other side two points.
The trick is the bowers. The jack of trump, the right bower, is the highest card, and the jack of the same colour, the left bower, jumps suit and becomes the second highest trump. The twist is the bower lens: once trump is set, every trump in your hand glows, the left bower wears a trump ribbon, and the whole trump order is drawn as a small ladder at the top. Six tables run from a family kitchen to the champions.
