About the game

Konane is a traditional Hawaiian board game, a pure strategy duel that is easy to learn and surprisingly deep. The board starts packed with alternating dark and light stones, with the two centre stones lifted out. On your turn you must jump: one of your stones leaps straight over a neighbouring enemy stone into the empty spot behind it, capturing it, and if the line continues you may keep jumping in the same direction. There is no other kind of move. The first player who cannot jump loses.

Because of that rule, the real score of Konane is not how many stones you take but how many moves you still have, so this version shows it all the time. A meter under the board compares both sides' legal moves, and when you pick up a stone every landing spot shows how the count would change, your moves against theirs. Six rivals from the reef await, on a 6x6 board and then the full 8x8, from a playful crab to a deep-thinking shark. Stars: win, win without hints, and win with at least three moves to spare.
