About the game

Mochi Shade is a shading logic puzzle based on Mochikoro. You shade cells in a square grid so that the white cells left over form rectangles, like rice cakes laid out on a dark tray. A rectangle may hold one number or none. When it holds a number, it must be exactly that many cells in size. Two more rules keep the tray tidy: no 2x2 block may be completely shaded, and every white rectangle must touch another at least corner to corner, so that all the mochi form one diagonal chain.

The twist is the puff. The moment a white rectangle is sealed by shade on every side with a legal shape and size, it rises into a soft rounded rice cake with a little bounce and a cheerful chime, so you can see at a glance which parts of the board are already settled. A white patch that bends into an L, or a shaded 2x2 block, glows red right away. Thirty puzzles grow from 4x4 to 8x8, each with one answer. Hints fix a wrong cell or decide the cell with the most settled neighbours.
