About the game

String Tune is a calm listening game about the musician's oldest trick. A tuning fork hums a note and a string plays beside it. When the two are slightly apart they beat against each other, a slow wah-wah wobble you can hear and also see as the string's pulsing glow. Turn the peg: the wobble speeds up as you go the wrong way and slows down as you get closer, and when it stops, the string is in tune. Press LOCK and the animal musician moves on to the next string.

There is no needle or number to read, only your ears and eyes. Later gigs ask for octaves, fifths and fourths, where the beating hides in the overtones, and then for strings tuned to the string before, so small errors add up. Lock too early and the note sounds sour; three sour notes or a running clock and the curtain rises on an out-of-tune band.
